Chemist Warehouse brought rugby to the fans with the “Classic Tackle,” an inflatable game built for Magic Round.
Background

Inflatable rugby games are interactive promotional activations that bring high-energy sporting experiences to public events. Designed for fan engagement, these products simulate real on-field action, like tackling and agility drills, within a fun, controlled environment. Their compact footprint, ease of transport, and strong branding presence make them ideal for sponsorship activations at sporting events.

Chemist Warehouse, one of Australia’s largest retail pharmacy chains, partnered with the Magic Round rugby tournament—an NRL fan-favourite event in Brisbane that brings all 17 teams together for one massive weekend. To connect with rugby fans and showcase its continued support for Australian sport, Chemist Warehouse sought a standout activation that could entertain attendees while reinforcing its sponsorship message. They engaged Giant Inflatables to develop an eye-catching, branded inflatable experience to meet this goal.

Design and Fabrication

Based on the proven “Classic Catch” cricket inflatable, Giant Inflatables evolved the design into the “Classic Tackle” to suit the rugby theme. Key to the adaptation was the inclusion of three oversized, air-filled tackle tubes, allowing participants to engage with the game physically. Bold yellow walls, branded barriers, and a large entry ramp ensured visual impact and accessibility. The enclosure used heavy-duty mesh for safe viewing and airflow while providing durable performance under high foot traffic. Logos for Chemist Warehouse and Magic Round featured prominently throughout.

Results

The final inflatable rugby game was a literally and figuratively hit drawing crowds throughout the Magic Round weekend. Fans of all ages eagerly queued to test their tackling skills inside the eye-catching yellow structure. Branded elements were strategically placed in social media photos and broadcast footage for maximum exposure. The Classic Tackle activation achieved its goal of high-energy engagement while strengthening Chemist Warehouse’s visibility as a proud sponsor of grassroots and professional rugby.
