Background
In the wake of the global COVID-19 pandemic, the tourism industry faced unprecedented challenges. Recognizing the need to reignite tourist interest in Western Australia, Tourism Western Australia (TAWA), the statutory body responsible for promoting the region, launched the “Wander Out Yonder” campaign.
This strategic initiative aimed to revitalize the tourism sector and showcase the wonders of Western Australia to a global audience.
The Design and Fabrication
Tourism Western Australia’s (“Tourism WA”) “Wander Out Yonder” campaign, aimed at reviving post-pandemic tourism, received a delightful boost with the help of Giant Inflatables.
Funkified, Tourism WA’s marketing agency, knowing Giant Inflatables’ reputation for quality, approached them once again to create a star attraction – a family of Giant Inflatable Quokkas.
To maximize impact, Giant Inflatables crafted a multi-sized family. Four impressive 6-metre-tall Quokkas were joined by two playful 3-metre-tall companions, forming an “unmissable advertisement” sprawling across the bustling beach area.
Digital printing technology ensured the inflatables boasted highly detailed fur textures, adding a touch of realism to the display.
However, visual appeal wasn’t the only consideration. Given the exposed, potentially windy conditions of the seaside location, Giant Inflatables prioritized durability.
High-quality PVC materials and their signature engineered tie points ensured the Giant Inflatable Quokkas could withstand the elements.
The design process itself was collaborative. Multiple iterations explored various sizes, shapes, and textures before settling on the final concept. Initially envisioned at 10 metres tall, the Giant Inflatable Quokkas were ultimately adjusted to 6 metres to optimize setup for the specific location.
The Results
Giant Inflatables’ Quokka family proved to be a picture-perfect success for Tourism Western Australia’s “Wander Out Yonder” campaign.
Their weekend display on the bustling Bondi Beach foreshore garnered significant media attention, with the Quokkas becoming stars of television segments, newspaper articles, and a social media frenzy.
Tourists and locals alike flocked to the inflatable display, seizing the opportunity for a delightful selfie moment with the cuddly marsupials.
This enthusiastic engagement fueled a wave of positive publicity for the campaign, significantly boosting its reach and impact.
