Leap Frogger, a full-service marketing organisation, manages promotional needs for major retail clients. Sports Direct was opening its first Australian store at Westfield Fountain Gate Shopping Centre in Melbourne. The grand opening was to be a major draw, featuring AFL superstar Nick Daicos and offering goodie bags and vouchers to early customers. The event required high-impact visual marketing to announce the opening of the new store.
Leap Frogger contacted Giant Inflatable to custom-design and fabricate two giant inflatable jerseys, branded to Sport Direct’s branding guidelines, to create maximum visibility for the new store across multiple zones. The inflatable jersey replicas would provide a large, eye-catching, three-dimensional representation of their core product and serve as an unmistakable signpost, directing foot traffic and amplifying the opening’s impact.
The custom inflatable jersey design was a faithful, large-scale reproduction of a branded sports top. The design incorporated a vibrant, angular pattern in red, black, and blue. Branding was prominently displayed with “SPORTS DIRECT NOW OPEN” across the chest. PMS colour matching was used to maintain brand consistency with the Sports Direct corporate identity.
Giant Inflatable fabricated the two distinct versions of the jersey to suit different locations. A towering six-meter model was strategically placed at the main entrance of Westfield Fountaingate to capture external attention, while the smaller, two-metre replica was positioned in the busy food court precinct, targeting high internal traffic. Both sizes provided scale-appropriate brand exposure across critical areas.
The construction utilised specialised materials for optimal performance. The outer skin, the jersey itself, was made from durable, UV-resistant coated Oxford cloth. This material allows for brilliant printing and remains lightweight for deployment. Crucially, the structure featured an inner bladder system constructed from PVC Nylon. This inner bladder ensures the inflatable’s structural integrity. This design allows the outer Oxford cloth jersey skin to be easily replaced for future promotions or design changes without requiring the replacement of the entire unit. The installation process was simple, relying on electric blowers and an easy-to-follow anchoring system.
The giant inflatable jersey replicas achieved the desired results. The two different sizes ensured comprehensive coverage across the mall. Placed at the main entrance and dining precinct, the inflatables generated significant awareness. The eye-catching inflatable jersey replica successfully complemented the grand opening activities, ensuring all mall visitors were aware of the new Sports Direct store.
