National Rugby League Custom Inflatable Rugby Field

Background:

The National Rugby League is the main organisation for professional rugby league in Australia and New Zealand. Based in New South Wales, it is always looking for new ways to grow grassroots participation.

The league puts a strong focus on bringing professional sporting experiences to fans in many regional communities. Community events need to be both engaging and safe for young athletes and fans.

Organisers need portable sports setups for coaching clinics, promotional tours, and interactive festivals. These events help introduce rugby to new groups in a safe and controlled environment.

The National Rugby League asked Giant Inflatables to design and build a custom product for their tours around the country. They needed a reliable, easy-to-move structure that could deliver a real game experience and adapt to different event needs.

The answer was a custom inflatable rugby field. It provides children and adults with a safe, enclosed space to learn and play. The field also helps the league by providing a flexible, eye-catching way to run events.

With this product, the league can easily set up an official playing area at many locations. Organisers use it to keep a strong presence and attract big crowds at local festivals.

The interactive area draws attention and gets people moving, helping the league achieve its main goal of growing the sport by making it easy for fans to join in.

Design and Fabrication:

The design team set out to make a large but easy-to-handle structure. The finished inflatable rugby field is 20 m wide and 30 m long. To make it easier to use, they split the field into two modular pieces.

This design keeps the total weight around 220 kg, making it easy for event staff to set up and take down during tours. The field is made from special PVC materials built to handle Australia’s tough weather. The strong vinyl withstands UV rays during long days outdoors. Setting it up on site is quick and easy.

The design incorporates one 1.5-hp air blower on each side of the structure. This specific two-blower configuration guarantees rapid inflation and maintains strict structural rigidity during high-impact physical activity.

Branding flexibility remained a primary requirement for the nationwide touring activation. The designers developed a highly adaptable, replaceable branding system for the external perimeter walls, enabling ground staff to quickly and cost-effectively swap out sponsor panels to highlight different sponsors. This critical capability ensures the inflatable rugby field can feature different regional corporate partners at each tour stop.

The design team utilised advanced PMS colour-matching to ensure all permanent league graphics and temporary sponsor panels replicate the exact corporate identity guidelines. The precise colour reproduction ensures immediate audience recognition and maintains the professional visual standard expected by the national organisation. The careful integration of modular construction, rapid inflation technology, and dynamic branding creates a highly effective, long-lasting touring asset.

The custom inflatable rugby field provided the National Rugby League with a portable and eye-catching way to host events. The lightweight modular setup made it easy for staff to set up the large 20 m x 30 m arena in various locations.
