CLIENT: Perth Festival 2019 / 2023

LOCATION: Perth, Western Australia

Artistic Inflatables light up the night sky for the Perth Festival.

The egg presented a stunning spectacle on its own, dwarfing the human scale.

Background:

Perth Festival is a not-for-profit multi-arts festival that brings world-class performance, music, film, visual arts and literary events every summer to Perth, Western Australia.

The festival has celebrated Perth, its people and culture on the Derbarl Yerrigan (Swan River) shores for nearly 70 years as Australia’s longest-running arts festival.

Brief:

In early September 2023, the Perth Festival Special Projects (PFSP) Giant Inflatables team for the second time to help them create an 11m inflatable egg.

Giant Inflatables designed a seed for the 2019 Perth Festival.

Coming into the project, the PFSP team provided a clear brief and design direction for the inflatable. The inflatable egg was to be 11m long, sat on a pre-fabricated nest-like cradle, and subsequently illuminated to provide a stunning visual experience.

With the Perth Festival just around the corner in early October, an expedited timeline for production was needed to ensure the timely installation of the structure.

Creative Process:

Weighing in at 118 kg and utilising more than 200 square metres of material, the mammoth inflatable finished its expedited production run in late September, just in time to ship to Perth for installation at the festival grounds.

Design Process:

The design was pretty straightforward. It is an egg.

Results:

The egg presented a stunning spectacle on its own, dwarfing the human scale. Upon its installation at the Perth Festival, the display was awe-inspiring, sitting upon a net-like cradle with lights and projections.
