Tradie’s Heaven is a used van and utility vehicle sales company based in Melbourne. They operate as a subsidiary of Melbourne’s Cheapest Cars, established in 1992.

Melbourne’s Cheapest cars are one of Giant Inflatable’s oldest customers, going back to the early 2000s when Giant Inflatables specialized in Ravers and Rooftop Balloons. They have purchased dozens of inflatables, each achieving a loftier goal.

In 2021 Tradies Heaven contacted Giant Inflatables with their biggest project yet; a mountain on a roof!

They needed a significant impact to launch their new Refrigerated Van branch, and it doesn’t get bigger than snow-capped mountains.

We created the enormous 20 m-long mountain in three sections to allow for easier installation and better maintenance. The promotional inflatable was designed to look like the snowy mountains of some polar environment; the mountains stand tall above the buildings and can be seen up to a kilometre away.

The design perfectly matches the signage and paintwork on the building, turning the structure into a seamless giant mountain.

With a long ongoing relationship with Melbourne’s Cheapest Cars, the Giant Inflatables team brief was to make the most significant mountain possible that employees can safely add to the roof.

With this simple brief, we were charged with making one of the biggest rooftop inflatables we have ever made in Australia.

To reduce the weight on the roof, we decided to create an “L” shaped profile instead of a square. This design reduced the weight by a quarter.

The “L” shape allowed the mountain to be viewed from the busy roads around the location where most traffic would see it.

The mountain was also designed based on the roof’s slope so that when inflated, it ideally conforms to the roof shape and allows water to run off into the gutters, stopping water from building up on the roof.

After a full day of installation, including a crane to lift the inflatable sections onto the roof, Melbourne’s Cheapest Cars CEO applauded Giant Inflatables on creating a “Spectacular and Unmissable Landmark.”

Over the last year, Polar Vans has become a local landmark attracting a large amount of walk-in business.
